Cycloparking, a Project Serving Brussels Residents
Cycloparking develops and runs a unique web platform.
It allows frequent cyclists who do not have a place to park their bicycle to find controlled-access parking spots near their homes or on their routes.
cycloparking.brussels is the tool that makes cyclists’ daily lives easier: simple to use, a single point of contact to get information, to subscribe to a parking or request the installation of a new one, and to report a technical problem. The rules for assigning spots and the procedures for subscribing are uniform and transparent. Via the platform’s interactive map, the Cycloparking team analyzes demand, undertakes the placement of new boxes and looks for alternative solutions (company parkings, garages, abandoned lots or unoccupied premises).
An Evolving Project
17 of the Region’s “communes” or sub-municipalities have joined Cycloparking since 2016. Others have signaled their interest. The goal? To bring together all of Brussels’ sub-municipalities.
Starting in 2018, private parkings and big public parkings will join Cycloparking. The number of spots available will increase and new cyclists will be able to enjoy the benefit of a secure place to keep their bicycles.
An Innovative Project
In 2018, Cycloparking is conducting research on developing a system for remote administration of access to parkings/bicycle boxes. Such a technology will offer flexible and responsive administration of controlled access and subscriptions over a very extensive territory.
A Supported Project
During the period 2014-2020, Cycloparking enjoys the co-financing of the European Union and the Brussels-Capital Region via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
