Programming projects FEDER 2014 – 2020

Divers Eldery Care

The proportion of people over 65 in Brussels is 27%, and by 2020 half of these people will be of foreign origin because of migratory flows.

Advancement in age is sometimes accompanied by a decline in cognitive and communication skills, a phenomenon known as senile dementia.

Often difficult to accept, the characteristics of senile dementia and adequate care are increasingly known among immigrant populations. In order to respond to this problem and take better care of the people affected, Divers Eldery Care aims to involve the various stakeholders around an applied research project.

The purpose of this research is to provide the actors of the sector with the knowledge and methods of treatment appropriate for the follow-up of elderly people from various cultural backgrounds who, during their phases of dementia, sometimes plunge back into their youth and their original culture. The project will go through several phases, ranging from awareness and prevention to a diagnostic phase before defining appropriate treatment methods.
