Stadsatelierdeville is a flagship project that combines innovation, production and reuse to accelerate the transition of the construction sector towards more sustainable and circular practices.
Stadsatelierdeville brings together several Brussels-based stakeholders committed to the transition towards a circular economy, including BC Materials, BC Architects & Studies, Democo, as well as partners Sonian Wood Coop, Circular Timber, Natura Mater, and a range of designers and experts from the sector.
In response to climate challenges and the environmental impact of the construction industry, the project aims to establish Brussels as a leading hub for circular construction. It includes the creation of a hub dedicated to bio-based, geo-based and reclaimed materials, as well as a new production site for BC Materials.
Located at Tour & Taxis, the project will develop nearly 9,300 m² of co-productive spaces designed to foster synergies between architects, engineers, designers, contractors, craftspeople and trainers. This hybrid facility will combine production, experimentation, innovation and knowledge sharing focused on circular materials.
The hub also addresses a strategic need for the Brussels-Capital Region: providing storage and recovery facilities for reclaimed construction materials in order to facilitate their reuse in building projects. The building itself will serve as a tangible demonstration of the principles of circular construction.
Supported under the ERDF (FEDER) 2021–2027 Programme, it is a public and private co-financing project.
By 2029, Stadsatelierdeville aims to prepare 1,380 tonnes of waste per year for reuse and recycle 1,280 tonnes of waste per year, thereby making a significant contribution to the development of the circular economy in Brussels.
