UR Square is a temporary occupation project located on the Usquare site, in the former Ixelles barracks, while the site’s renovation works are being completed. This collaborative initiative is transforming the area into a creative, sustainable, and innovative hub where the community plays a central role. Managed by WonderMei, UR Square hosts creative, sustainable, and socially driven projects. It is a place for meeting, collaboration, and innovation in the heart of Brussels.
The redevelopment of the Usquare site is led by the Brussels-Capital Region, the ULB and VUB universities, and the European Union through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund). The project aims to create a unique university and innovation hub serving students, researchers, and the people of Brussels.
UR Square creates spaces for meeting, collaboration and experimentation while actively contributing to the transformation of the site and its opening to the city.
UR Square is part of this dynamic by exploring how temporary occupation and community-led initiatives can contribute to a sustainable, inclusive and open transformation of urban spaces.
Today, the project is entering a new phase of development, marked by an expanded programme of activities and the consolidation of collective dynamics.

Shifting Grounds (Design September – 20th Anniversary Edition)
18/09 to 26/09, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
The flagship exhibition of Design September explores new design practices in response to ecological challenges. The event showcases innovative creations by young Belgian and European designers focused on reuse and the production methods of tomorrow. A DJ set is also scheduled during the opening event.
Fair Priced Vintage
03/10 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and 04/10 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
A must-attend event for affordable vintage and sustainable fashion. A carefully curated selection of second-hand clothing sold by weight promotes the circular economy in the heart of the neighbourhood.
Artonov Festival
07/10 and 08/10, both from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
This festival brings together performing arts and architecture. At UR Square, unique interdisciplinary performances connect the site’s heritage with contemporary creation, offering an original sensory experience.
STC – La Grande Course
31/10 from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM
A festive and inclusive event combining a sporting challenge with cultural activities to bring UR Square to life for the wider public. The event features a solidarity relay race for teams of 3 to 5 participants. The objective is to complete as many laps as possible within 45 minutes and raise funds in a friendly atmosphere at the heart of a heritage site undergoing transformation.
