In Ixelles, the ERDF-funded LAGUM/Refresh project is transforming urban rooftops into sustainable food production spaces. Through a partnership between the Municipality of Ixelles, ULB, VUB, and Refresh ASBL, more than 2,000 m² of rooftop space, including 900 m² dedicated to market gardening, is used to produce vegetables, aromatic herbs, and fruit in the heart of the city.
During the guided tour, participants will explore the growing beds and greenhouse with Marie, who will present the origins of the project, the cultivation methods used, irrigation management, and the main challenges of rooftop urban agriculture.
