#EUinmyregion at the Ferme du Chaudron: Free guided tour with Clara

Economic development, urbanisation and population growth have gradually led to the disappearance of Brussels’ rural landscapes. Yet the Land van Neerpede in Anderlecht remains a vast protected area of more than 400 hectares, comprising fields, woodlands, ponds and streams. It is one of the last agricultural zones in the capital and plays an essential ecological role.

At the heart of this area lies La Ferme du Chaudron, a regional property located near the Pede Pond. Built at the end of the 19th century, the farm supplied Brussels with agricultural products through a diverse range of activities, including vegetable growing, orchards and livestock farming. After a period of vacancy, the site is now being renovated by Brussels Environment. Since 2024, a consortium of four associations has held a ten-year concession to develop the site into a House of Food Sovereignty, an ambitious project for western Brussels.

With the support of the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), The Cauldron Farm, as an integral part of the BoerenBruxselPaysans ERDF project, has become a key hub for the development of sustainable urban agriculture in Brussels, serving local food production, ecology and social cohesion.
